CIVETS – Viverridae Indian Civet Viverra zibetha
• Distribution
The Indian Civet lives in the mountainous provinces in the north and the center of Vietnam. They also live in more countries in South East Asia like Lao, Thailand and China.
• Habitat
The Indian Civet lives in the hilly forest and the valleys of Vietnam.
• Behaviour
They usually hunt in the open areas of the forest and close to a stream at twilight. Special for this species is that it change its habits several times a year. They only pair up in the breeding season. Insects and worms forms the principal component of the diet of the Indian Civet and is supplemented by fruit and little mammals like mice and birds. The Indian Civet is fed in the Hanoi Zoo is the same it eats in the wild. The Indian Civet reaches its sexual maturity at the same age as all the civet species which is around 18 to 24 months. The gestation period is around 60 to 70 days. Also the breeding season is the same which is concentrated in the months February until April..
