STARLINGS – Sturnidae Southern Grackle Gracula religiosa intermedia
• Distribution
These grackles are found in Hoa Binh province of Vietnam and the Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand, Lao and China.
• Habitat
The Southern Grackle is a nonmigrational bird, which lives in a couple or in a small group of 5 to 7 animals. They live near the countryside and live mainly in the trees. Very rarely they appear on the ground.
• Behaviour
They eat all kind of soft fruits like banana, figs and papaya. The breeding season is in April to July. They lay two to three eggs in each brood. The parents take care of the chicks until they are one month old. The Southern Grackle has a beautiful voice and is usually held as a pet. In Hanoi Zoo the Southern Grackle is a very attractive bird on display.
