PARROTS – Psittacidae
Blue And Yellow Macaw
These macaws live in the large parts of the Amazonian rainforest stretching into the Andes.
This species belongs to the large and colorful macaws. They fly in pairs or with three, but also in flocks of more than 30 birds. The macaws have a loud call to communicate with each other between roosting and feeding places, which is mainly in the morning and before sunset. The macaws quietly feed in the top of the trees eating fruit, leaves and nuts.
Macaws use a hollow tree for their nesting site and produce mostly two white eggs and sometimes three. After an incubation time of 35 days.
In captivity breeding results have been recorded in European and American zoos, but also in Hanoi Zoo..
