They are found in south Europe, Africa, central and southern Asia and Australia

Grassland, marshes and bogs
• Behaviour
The Purple Swamphen builds its nests with all kind of matter in a marsh or on open water. They feed on plants and wateranimals like insects, toads and frogs. In Hanoi Zoo they are fed small fish. The female can lay 2-6 eggs which incubate in about 22 to 25 days. Both parents take care of the chicks.
