• Distribution
This peafowl is found in the center and the south of Vietnam.
• Habitat
The Indochinese Green Peafowl usually lives in a sparse forest near a river or a stream.
• Behaviour
An adult male has a long steel green tail. The female has the same colors as the male but the tail is much shorter. Their nests sre very simple. It is only a small hole in the ground and it is about 20-22 cm in diameter and 3 to 4 cm deep. Because it is lined by dried leaves under the bushes it is really hard to find or recognize a nest of the Green Peafowl. The Green Peafowl is not nocturnal, it is searching for food during daytime from dawn to sunset. In the wild this peafowl eats all kind of seeds, fruits, shoots and insects. In the Hanoi Zoo they are fed the same. The Green Peafowl is searching foor food in flocks or families, very rarely you will see an individual searching for food. The breeding season of the Green Peafowl is in May and June. The Green Peafowl lays about 4 to 6 eggs in each brood and it can lay over 10 eggs a year. The eggs can incubate for 27 to 28 days. A young Green Peafowl will stay with its mother for one year until it is grown-up. In Hanoi Zoo there are a few Green Peafowl. It s a beautiful bird and it attracts a lot of visitors. Hanoi Zoo is very happy with the fact that it breeds very well.
