• Distribution
This pheasant only appear in the northern part of China and the northern eastern part of Vietnam.
• Habitat
Like almost all the pheasant species, this pheasant also inhabits in a wide range of forest from tropical rainforest, evergreen forest to more open areas and along the roads of Vietnam. Still they like to have some brushes around to make their nest under it and to hide for their predators. This pheasant is also found close to rivers and streams.
• Behaviour
They live in small groups which contains 5 to 10 individuals. The male is bigger than the female and they can weigh up to 2 kg while the female only weigh up to 1,4 kg. During daytime they are searching for food, but usually in the afternoon they have a little rest. Their nests are very simple, they are made from some dry leaves and grass at the foot of the tree or under some brushes. In the wild the True Silver Pheasant eats all kind of fruits, rice, insects and worms. In Hanoi Zoo they are fed all kind of fruits, insects and rice. The breeding season is in the spring and they lay 4 to 7 eggs in each brood, which can incubate for 27 days. As soon as the chicks are born they are able to follow the hen when she is searching for food. Within a few weeks the chicks are able to search for their own food. Eight months after the chicks are born they will get the smae beautifull white, silver feathers as their parents.
